The tournament, which started on Friday, 25 July 2026, brought together young players aged between four and 16 years old, who competed in various categories depending on their experience and age groups. Some participants played three holes, while others competed over nine and 18 holes.
The competition was organised as part of efforts to promote golf among young people in Rwanda and nurture future talent in a sport that has been identified as one of the areas with potential to boost sports tourism in the country.
The NCBA Junior Golf Series is also held in other East African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, where participation has continued to grow, with more than 1,000 children taking part every year.
According to NCBA Bank Rwanda, supporting young golfers goes beyond developing sporting skills, as the game helps children build discipline, confidence, and strong personal values while preparing them for possible professional careers in golf in the future.
The Kigali tournament featured several categories, including the 18-hole category, the nine-hole categories of Red Tee Box and Second Category, as well as the six-hole categories of Category 1 and Category 2. The youngest golfers competed in the three-hole category.
In the main 18-hole competition, Malakai Bwimba claimed the overall victory after recording 100 points. He was followed by Alfie Wafula, who finished with 102 points, while Roshni Shah secured third place with 103 points.
The NCBA Junior Golf Series is organised by NCBA Bank as part of its golf development programme, following the success of the NCBA Golf Series, which brings together adult golfers.
