The championships began on October 15, 2026, at Kasarani Indoor Arena, bringing together 150 boxers representing 15 African countries.
Rwanda was represented by six boxers who competed across four weight categories: 47–50kg, 50–55kg, 55–60kg and 60–65kg.
The team secured its first-ever silver medal at the continental competition through Valentin, while Pacifique Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iyanone and Kenny each won a bronze medal.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for Rwandan boxing, as the country had not previously won a medal at the championships.
The Rwanda Boxing Federation (RBF) described the results as the beginning of continued progress, pledging to intensify training and build a stronger national team capable of winning gold medals in future competitions.
Kenya, the host nation, emerged as the best-performing country at the African Boxing Elite Championships, winning 14 medals, including five gold, three silver and six bronze medals.
