{The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Emmanuel K Gasana has concluded a three-day tour in Rusizi and Nyamasheke Districts of the Western Province where he inspected all police stations in the area as part of the Police’s routine checks aiming at improving the quality of services offered by the stations.}
During his visit, the Police Chief also held series of meetings with police officers and stakeholders and rallied for enhancement of security strategies in the area.
Accompanied by commissioners and other senior police officers, IGP Gasana urged officers in the two districts, community policing committees, commercial motorcyclists operating in the district and other police stakeholders to always ensure that they prevent, detect and combat crimes that may cause insecurity in the area. A detailed account of these were highlighted.
While meeting commercial motorcyclists operating in Rusizi District, IGP Gasana promised to investigate embezzlement cases of funds meant for the construction of the motorist building.
The Police Chief made the remarks while responding to concerns raised by the head of commercial motorcyclists cooperative (COMURU) Vincent Kayigire, relating to people who embezzled funds meant for the construction of the four-storeyed building.
The IGP also said that RNP is committed to continue working closely with all its stakeholders including motorcyclists in ensuring public safety and crime prevention.
He emphasized the importance of community policing as a key to crime prevention. “you must share timely and accurate information relating to crimes like Gender Based Violence (GBV) and child abuse, human trafficking, drug abuse, corruption and issues related to street children among others” the IGP said.
In his meeting with local leaders, the Inspector General of Police further underscored the importance of better utilisation of available social protection schemes to accelerate poverty eradication and rural growth.
The police leadership will be conducting similar work-visits in different parts of the country to ensure force discipline, better service delivery and continued partnership in community policing.
