These are among reasons why many people dislike glasses or wear them by accident.
As the world evolves, new technologies and innovations are being embraced to improve health services.
It is against this background that health facilities helping people to get rid of glasses have been introduced.
These include Pyramid Eye Center. The latter has introduced the Lasik Eye Procedure which uses the best known ‘Lasik’ technology to correct vision problems and help people get rid of glasses as they continue their work without disruptions.
The facility located in Kicukiro District of Kigali City is the first of its kind offering such services in Rwanda.
{{What is the latest technology to correct the vision?}}
As revealed by specialist doctors from Pyramid Eye Center, when the degree is less than -9 (myopia) and than +5 (hyperopia), the entire correction can be done by LASIK.
During LASIK Procedure, a special type of cutting laser is used to precisely change the shape of the dome-shaped clear tissue at the front of your eye (cornea) to improve vision.
“LASIK” is an acronym that stands for “laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis.” “In situ” translates into “in position” or “in place” and “keratomileusis” is the medical term for the reshaping of the cornea in your eye.
In eyes with normal vision, the cornea bends (refracts) light precisely onto the retina at the back of the eye. But with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) or astigmatism, the light is bent incorrectly, resulting in blurred vision.
Glasses or contact lenses can correct vision, but reshaping the cornea itself also will provide the necessary refraction.
The laser Procedure is popular in countries with advanced eye care services including the United States of America (USA), France, the United Kingdom (UK) and Japan among others.
This Procedure has been applied to over one million people across the world.
Laser eye surgery is most appropriate for people who have a moderate degree of refractive error and no unusual vision problems. This procedure is conducted after using an investigation machine to detect the nature of one’s conditions and establish whether it could not be dangerous if the surgery is conducted.
This surgery is not recommended to people aged below 18 .
It can be conducted within ten minutes without inflicting pain to the patient.
And when the degrees are above -9 and above +5 the method here is called {{BIOPTICS:}}
It it is done by implanting a very thin lens (ICL) made of collamer that never rejects and placed directly behind the pupil and rests forever inside the eye to correct degrees of myopia, hyperopia ,or astigmatism, no matter how much.
It is an easy and simple procedure that takes place within 15 minutes under local anaesthesia to give permanent results.
During the Bioptics method may need to perform a second stage after lens implantation for a complete correction via laser by a device based on the eye print this procedure called contoura vision.

The mute child hailing from Kiduha Village, Ryakibogo Cell drowned on Monday 22nd August 2022 around 6p.m.
By the time he drowned, Ishimwe was along with four children grazing goats and their grandfather identified as Telesphole Ndagijimana, 70, who was grazing a cow.
The old man recounted that the children who were behind alerted him that his grandchild had fallen in the dam. Ndagijimana tried to rescue the child but ended up in vain.
The Executive Secretary of Gishamvu Sector, Vianney Nkubana has told IGIHE, by press time, that the body has not yet been retrieved.
He urged parents to prevent children’s movements around the dam.
Kadahokwa dam was created in 2014. Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC) has been treating its water to be distributed to Huye District.
Similar incident last happened in the dam in 2020.
IGP Munyuza is visiting Singapore at the invitation of his counterpart, Commissioner General (CG) Hoong Wee Teck.
On Tuesday, August 23, IGP Munyuza and his host, CG Hoong signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which highlights key areas of Police cooperation between the two Police forces in capacity development as well as fighting and preventing transnational organized crime.
In the same spirit, a cooperation agreement was also signed between the Secretary General of RIB, Col (rtd) Jeannot Ruhunga and Singapore Police Commissioner General, Hoong Wee Teck.
The signing ceremony was also attended by Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Singapore, Jean De Dieu Uwihanganye.
Rwanda National Police and Singapore Police Force agreed to cooperate in various training programmes, exchange of expertise, sharing of information and conducting coordinated operations.
The MoU highlights building institutions’ capacity and capabilities in fighting all forms of transnational organized crime, cyber-crime, trafficking in persons, online child sexual exploitation, money laundering, public security and public order; fighting and preventing smuggling and trade in arms, ammunition and explosives, among others.
Both IGP Munyuza and CG Hoong Wee Teck expressed commitment of their respective Police institutions to fight crimes and exchange of experiences in various areas of policing.
The two Police Chiefs termed the agreement as a “significant step in bilateral Police cooperation” and that it “bears steadfast commitment to combatting transnational organized crime and contributes to the safety and security of citizens as well as making the respective regions and the world a safer place.”
For instance, Biryogo in Nyamirambo is among places that have got a facelift with new tarmac roads and other infrastructures that have given it a new look and positioned it as a favourable place for investment.
The latter is part of ongoing efforts to beautify Kigali City and make it a safer place for dwellers.
In this fiscal year, the City of Kigali plans to build 10 roads covering 70 kilometers where Rwf10 billion will be allocated for expropriation of 2000 residents.
On the other hand, Nyabugogo Bus Terminal which serves as a carrefour for buses from all provinces of Rwanda seems to be in a sorry state that it needs rehabilitation in line with the fast growing infrastructure upgrade in the City of Kigali.
In November 2017, Kigali City announced plan to rehabilitate the Nyabugogo Bus Terminal. The project had to begin in 2018 but implementation has not started up to date.
Kigali City says that it is working on the project to upgrade the taxi park with the World Bank which will provide funding.
Kigali City Engineer, Emmanuel Asaba Katabarwa has told IGIHE that Nyabugogo Bus Terminal is part of a large project requiring huge funds.
Discussions have been completed pending further consultations to determine sources of funds to make the study.
The project comprises a multilevel bus terminal where passengers’ waiting shelters, parking for public buses will be separated from restaurants and shops.
“The project will give magnificence to the City of Kigali. That is why we make thorough planning for smooth implementation,” Eng Katabarwa said.
The project including the rehabilitation of places adjacent to Nyabugogo Bus Terminal will cost Rwf100 billion. It will also cover the upgrade of nearby junctures to enable smooth movement of vehicles.
Eng. Katabarwa said that discussions have been ongoing for a year where concerned parties agreed on activities to be carried out. He also disclosed that making the project’s feasibility study might begin in the near future.
“They are set to provide funds to make the study that will not last for less than six months to be followed by agreements with engineers to begin construction works,” he noted.
Inaugurated in 1998, Nyabugogo Bus Terminal is among strategic locations for businesses over serving as a passage for intra-city movements, movements to provinces or to Kigali.
The move follows vendors’ concerns expressing frustration over running businesses in unfavourable conditions where some sections of the market are not roofed. This has seen vendors halting businesses whenever it rains to find shelter.
Among others, vendors claimed that the roofed section is overcrowded. Rain water pipes are also said to be dilapidated that some merchandises are damaged when it rains.
Officials in Gicumbi District say that vendors’ concerns were understood that a meeting was summoned with representatives of the private sector to find a solution.
It was resolved to relocate traders to new buildings completed in Byumba town that do not house any business. Traders to be relocated are those operating in uncomfortable spaces.
Bwanakeye, one of traders in Byumba market has asked leaders to consider their interests during the relocation process lest their businesses suffer losses.
Philbert Nyirimanzi, the president of Gicumbi Stars, a cooperative bringing together differently abled persons selling clothes in the market said that they have no means to pay rental fees for a large building.
As he said, they have been struggling to pay Rwf45,000 per month in the old market where their business would be affected once the price increases further.
The Mayor of Gicumbi District, Emmanuel Nzabonimpa has said that the decision reached after consultations with representatives from the private sector, seeks to help traders run businesses in comfortable and ample spaces.
It is said that traders without adequate means might be allowed to operate together in one space to reduce expenses.
