500 graduates in Kigali for retooling

City of Kigali in collaboration with Kigali Employment Service Center (KESC) is set to support approximately 500 graduates, polish their skills through trainings in project preparations and provide initial investment to implement the designed projects.

Ayebazibwe Pulicano, the director of KESC said that trainees’ capacities will be enhanced, with due emphasis on drawing bankable business plans and managing them. This was unveiled yesterday during a meeting that brought together KESC personnel and its partners.

“We have requested all sectors in the City of Kigali to register the number of graduates in need of assistance. We want to equip them with adequate knowledge of creating own jobs and business. We expect to extend the support to others,” he said.

Ayebaziwe revealed that KESC has negotiated with financial institutions on how to support the beneficiaries in implementing the eloquently designed projects.

Trainings are expected to start in January, running through May2016 with 90% of the trainees being unemployed graduates holding a Bachelors degree while the remaining percentage will cover those with post-graduate qualifications.

KESC capacity building in job creation started in 2013. The Fourth Integrated Household Living Conditions Survey in Rwanda conducted by the National Institute of Statistics indicates that 13.5% of unemployed youth are university graduates while 9% are secondary school drop-outs.
