Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) beauty pageant has come up with a new twist involving deaf, dumb and the blind.
The beauty pageant which searches for Miss and Mr KIE, will involve one dumb, deaf girl plus one blind deaf male joining the beauty race which will conclude December 23, 2011 the day the finalists will be announced and crowned.
The new entrants include Blandine Uwimana for Miss and William Safari for Mr. KIE, and both are students at the institution.
Speaking to Igihe.com, Uwimana pointed out that she wants to show the public that disability is not inability and that they have capacity to getting involved in different activities.
Nodding in on what Uwimana said, Safari challenged the public saying, “All people should be aware, we were not selected to contest because of our disabilities but because we fill we have all requirements needed to contest.”
Safari assures the public that he will come with new and unique ways of exhibiting himself in the event that will also attract popular local artistes including Kitoko, King James, Riderman, and Jay Polly among others.
