Old electric cables probable cause of Nyarugenge prison fire

{Rwanda Correctional Services (RCS) has announced that investigation are underway to establish the cause of fire the caught Nyarugenge prison, 1930, on Christmas day pointing old electric cables among probable causes of the incident. }

As the incident happened, part of 1930 prison Bloc 11 accommodating men was completely razed by fire.

In an interview with IGIHE, the spokesperson of RCS CIP Sengabo Hillary has said that preliminary findings of the investigation have indicated that loose electric cables are likely to have caused the fire.

“The incident was caused by old electric cables. What people say that the prison was burnt is untrue,” he said.

He explained that they are going to move fast in relocating inmates to Mageragere prison.
