Landmine kills five Nyagatare herdsmen

{A landmine has exploded and killed five herdsmen in Naymirama cell of Karangazi sector in Nyagatare district. }

The incident happened yesterday as the five victims were grazing their cows in grassland nearby Gabiro Military Camp.

IGIHE has learnt that the land mine exploded as the herdsmen hit it out of curiosity to identify what it was.

Rwanda National Police spokesperson, ACP Theos Badege has confirmed to IGIHE that the five herdsmen were killed by the bomb blast yesterday.

“It is true that the incident happened yesterday. The deceased were cow keepers who were grazing their cows. After hearing the blast, security personnel and residents went to the field and found them dead,” he said.

He appealed to all people to avoid hitting unidentified objects.
