If everything is done in due course, the hospital shall start receiving patients in February 2019.
The construction of Nyarugenge Hospital began in February last year on funding from Belgian Kingdom.
The first phase took over Rwf 6 billion. Both the first and the second phase will be completed at a cost of Rwf 12 billion.
The progress of the first phase is currently at 90%.
The mayor of Nyarugenge district, Kayisime Nzaramba has told IGIHE that they have released a tender of equipment to be available not later than December this year.
“Construction activities are at 91%. We are hopeful that activities will be completed by the end of November. We will be left with the only task of installing equipment inside. We have offered tenders that they will have been provided by December,” he said.
“We are optimistic that the hospital might be operational early next year in February if there are no hindrances. As of now, we are on good progress,” added Nzaramba.
The first phase of the hospital built on 2.2 hectares will have the capacity of accommodating 120 patients.
Nzaramba revealed that the next phase will be equipped with 180 beds raising the number to 300 including 120 of the first phase.

Drunken driving is an offense punishable with a fine of Rwf150, 000, 5 days imprisonment, confiscation of driver’s license and impounding the vehicle.

The matter of families without accommodations was brought to attention recently on 1st October 2019 when the Minister of Local Government, Prof Anastase Shyaka visited Musanze district.
He requested concerned officials to put it among priority issues to be addressed to improve residents’ wellbeing.
The first meeting of the Ad Hoc Commission on the implementation of the Luanda Memorandum of Understandings between Rwanda and Uganda took place on 16th September 2019 in Kigali. The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of External Relations of Angola, Manuel Domingos Augusto and Gilbert Kankonde Malamba, the Deputy Prime Minister of Interior of DRC.
The Rwandan delegation was led by Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, the Minister of State in charge of the East African Community while Sam Kutesa, Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs leads the Ugandan delegation.
Rwanda was also represented by Gen Maj Frank Mugambage, Rwanda’s ambassador to Uganda; the Minister of Justice, Johnston Busingye; the Minister of Local Government, Prof. Shyaka Anastase; Gen Maj Joseph Nzabamwita, the Secretary-General of the National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) and Col Anaclet Kalibata, the head of External Intelligence at NISS.
Uganda’s delegation also included the Minister of Defense, Gen. J.J Odongo Abu; Amb. Joseph Ocwet; the Director-General External Security Organisation (ESO), the State’s Attorney General, Byaruhanga and Uganda’s ambassador to Rwanda, Oliver Wonekha.
Facilitators included Angolan Ambassador to Rwanda, Horacio Uliengue; Angolan Foreign Affairs Minister and DRC Deputy Prime Minister and head of Intelligence Inzun Justin Kakiak.
Following the meeting, Rwanda’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Olivier Nduhungirehe explained that both countries will meet again in Kampala within 30 days to assess the implementation of today’s resolutions.
“There is a willingness to restore relations between Rwanda and Uganda citizens and be assured of their security,” he said.
Both countries agreed to follow due process in dealing with each other’s citizens; reiterated commitment to refraining from acts of destabilizing each other; finalize the extradition treaty in order to provide a framework for future exchange of criminal fugitives and cease all forms of hostile propaganda in both mainstream and social media.
Both countries also agreed that the issue of free movement of persons, goods, and services across the common border and other outstanding issues would be discussed in the next meeting that was due in Kampala, Uganda after 30 days to review the implementation progress of Luanda MoUs.
Commenting on the appointment following 30 days which ended five days ago, Nduhungirehe told IGIHE that ‘The invitation will come from Ugandans. We are not the ones supposed to send the invitation.”
He said that no progress made following the previous meeting in Kigali.
During the first meeting, Rwanda provided a list of Rwandans detained in Uganda and the Republic of Uganda committed to verify the information for the purpose of processing those named through a due judicial process and releasing those against whom no evidence of criminal conduct will have been found.
Rwanda, Uganda relations worsened since 2017.
Rwanda expressed concerns over Rwandans who travel to Uganda for business purposes but are abducted, imprisoned and tortured accused of being Rwanda’s spies.
In March 2019, the Government of Rwanda officially advised citizens not to travel to Uganda for their security following testimonies of over 1000 Rwandans tortured and deported from Uganda.
Rwanda also accuses Uganda of housing dissidents intending to threaten state security.
Mount Kenya University Rwanda launched a state of the art swimming pool to serve its students and the general public. The swimming pool located in its new hostel christened Mount Kigali Hostel.
The facility is part of a strategic plan by Mount Kenya University to create a conducive learning environment and also to nurture its students’ sporting talents.
The Hostel has a capacity to accommodate over 100 students. In addition, to the swimming pool, the hostel has a Cafeteria, Free WIFI, Study Villas, Indoor Basket Ball Court, and other indoor entertainment facilities.
Mount Kigali Hostel will alleviate the accommodation problem for students who come from far away places.
In his remark during the ceremony, the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Simon Gicharu thanked the government for the enabling environment and support and said the university is committed to promoting sport and nurture talent.
The Vice-Mayor Baingana Emmanuel, who was representing the Mayor Dr. Nyirahabimana Jeanne, thanked the University for establishing the facility in the area. He called the local residents to take advantage of the facility.
During the launch, Mount Kenya University in collaboration with Rwanda Swimming Federation organized a swimming competition that attracted several teams in Kigali and outside. The competition comprised of various disciplines from a butterfly, backstroke, freestyle and an individual medley of various age group.
Taking place for the first time in Africa, the Global Gender Summit is a biennial event organized by the multilateral development banks (MDBs) including the African Development Bank in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda is expected that around 800 delegates including Heads of States, Heads of Governments, delegates from Development Institutions, private sector, civil society, and academia will participate in this summit.

Soline NYIRAHABIMANAunderlined: ‘It is a privilege that Rwanda was chosen to host this year’s Global Gender Summit; taking place in Africa for the first time. We believe that GGS 2019 will be an opportunity to share best practices from all participants so that we accelerate progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa and around the world.’
This year’s summit is the 4th edition after previous Global Gender Summits having taken in Istanbul (2012), Manila in 2014 and in the United States, Washington DC in 2016.
“We are excited to be bringing the world to Africa on the issue of gender equality. We have chosen Rwanda because the country is an example when it comes to empowering its women, well beyond Africa’s borders” said Vanessa Moungar, Director of the Gender, Women, and Civil Society Department at the African Development Bank.
Under the theme of “Unpacking constraints to gender equality”, the 2019 Global Gender Summit will focus on three key dimensions to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment: scaling up innovative financing; fostering an enabling environment and ensuring women’s participation and voices.
These dimensions will be articulated around three main thematic areas: climate change, private sector development, and human capital and productive employment. The digital revolution will be addressed throughout the sessions as a cross-cutting theme.
“We will be launching a number of initiatives to dramatically transform the landscape of access to finance in Africa and to unlock the $42 billion financing gap for women that exists there,” added Vanessa Moungar.
The Global Gender Summit will result in concrete commitments to advance women’s empowerment, which will be taken forward by all partners present.
The spokesperson of RNP, CP John Bosco Kabera has said that attackers have not yet been identified.
“On 19th around 7:30 pm, unidentified people detonated a grenade in Kamember town of Rusizi district leaving minor injuries to four people who were rushed to the hospital,” reads RNP statement in part.

The TVS motorcycle, RC 492T was stolen in August in front of a bar in Rukumberi Sector, where the owner had parked it.
It was recovered Saturday in the Jarama Sector, also in Ngoma from the suspected thief identified as Eugene Ufitubuzima, who was also taken into custody.
The Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, Chief Inspector of Police (CIP) Hamdun Twizeyimana said that law enforcement organs received Maniriho’s theft complaint back in August, and the search was commenced.
“Maniriho reported that his motorcycle was stolen in August, he provided its plate and engine numbers,” CIP Twizeyimana said.
“During the search, we received information from a mechanic, who had worked on the motorcycle and out of suspicion that it could have been stolen, he decided to call the Police,” he added.
He thanked the mechanic for his responsiveness adding that it is the “spirit and attitude required of every member of the public to fight and prevent crimes, recover stolen or missing items, and bring wrongdoers to justice.”
Thieves had changed its plate numbers although it was identified by its engine number, CIP Twizeyimana said.
The recovery of Maniriho’s motorcycle came few days after another was recovered in Bugusera District.
Maniriho, on his part, thanked the resident, who helped the Police efforts to recover his motorcycle, and commended the impact of community policing in fighting and preventing crimes.
The companies that participated in the program are expected to transform and bring innovative services to citizens through mobile content, multimedia, e-tourism, e-sports and film making.
Constructed under joint Rwanda – South Korea “Enhancing ICT Innovation Capacity in Rwanda” project, the new state of the art ICT Innovation Center was inaugurated in June this year.
It aims at fostering the development of the ICT and audio-visual sectors in Rwanda by building the capacities of job seekers and start-ups.
The 15 selected companies include;
-* -Zacu TV, LaFotolia, Dtravela and Mudacumura Publishing house. They will each get investment support of US$ 2,000 and further training in Korea;
-* Mapa, Zoombyte and Innovetancy will each receive US$ 1,800 USD;
-* e sport, macye App and e construct will each receive funding of US$1400;
-* Toutrip, Powerhouse studio, TBirori, Mbwira App and Kosmotive Health will receive US$ 1,000 each.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary in Ministry of ICT & Innovation, Claudette Irere said: “These initiatives are meant to enhance capacity building and skilled human resource development programs which have been in short supply in the ICT sector and we expect it to contribute to its development. The Government is working with partners to increase the number of incubation centres in the country in order to improve the sustainability of start-ups.”
The KOICA Country Deputy Director, Myung Keun Choi said that the support will be extended to more Rwandans.
“We are pleased to witness the first beneficiaries of the Inclusive Business Solution Program. We plan to support the Government of Rwanda in upskilling of more Rwandans so that they overcome challenges as they grow.”
