The zoo officials on a routine patrol spotted the intruder who jumped the security fences into the lions’ enclosure in the zoo located in the Achimota Forest, one of the capital’s green belts, said the statement.
“The intruder was attacked and injured by one of the lions within the inner fencing of the enclosure. He was confirmed dead from injuries sustained, and the body has been conveyed to the morgue,” it said.
The commission “wished to assure the general public that no lion has escaped from the zoo,” adding that the motive of the intruder was not known, and investigations were underway.
Dube-Ncube made the remarks while addressing the people at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban and congratulating the Russian runner Alexandra Morozova for winning the Comrades Marathon 2022 in the women’s category.
Dube-Ncube said the event benefited tourism and the economy, including the small enterprises in KwaZulu-Natal province. “It should be remembered that KZN hosted the most successful 5th BRICS Summit in 2013,” she said, noting she would like to see more cooperation with BRICS countries.
BRICS is the acronym for an emerging-market bloc that groups Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

He said China will strengthen cooperation with Pakistan on disaster prevention and mitigation, and provide more assistance to Pakistan in fighting floods and post-disaster reconstruction.
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and the Pakistani Embassy in China are contacting relevant enterprises and various sectors to raise funds. Hopefully, the Pakistani people will overcome the floods and rebuild their homeland as early as possible, he added.
The incident happened in Munini Village of Kabona Sector in the afternoon of Sunday 28th August 2022.
It is said that the old man went to graze cows early in the morning and retuned home around 12:00 noon.
According to sources, the old man sent his daughter to buy items at Muyira business center and found the father hanging as she returned.
The Executive Secretary of Rusebeya Sector, Janvier Ntihinyurwa has told IGIHE that the old man may have committed suicide even though the reason behind taking his life remains unknown.
“It is apparent that he climbed onto a ladder, wrapped his neck with a rope made from a mosquito net and jumped. We found the ladder around his body,” he said.
Residents have been urged to report their problems to local leaders for assistance instead of considering suicide.
Rwanzegushira is survived by a wife and four children. His body was taken to Murunda Hospital for postmortem before burial.
Beneficiaries were trained on different microfinance service operations including accounting and customer care, loan and credit operations among others.
The program is implemented by the Association of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda (AMIR) in collaboration with Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Rwanda Institute of Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship, and Microfinance (RICEM) and German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation (DSIK).
The graduates who were certified as Microfinance Professionals on Friday 26th August 2022 include 30 female and 30 apprentices.
45 of them are from 18 MFIs while the remaining 15 are fresh graduates from the RDB data base with a bachelor’s degree relevant fields of studies.
The training is rolled out in Kigali City and Rubavu District with a view to up-skill employees from MFIs, tackle joblessness among the youth and enhance professionalism for existing and future workforce of MFIs.
The theoretical learning takes 20% while the practical session (80%) allows apprentices to spend enough time in the hosting financial institutions for practical application of the theoretical inputs.
Alexis Kabayiza, the Chief Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) said that the program will help clients working with MFIs to receive well managed loans as employees are equipped with skills to assist them.
The Country Director of DSIK German Sparkassenstiftung Eastern African in Rwanda, Ruth Madl urged graduates to put into practice acquired skills and strive for excellence which will encourage more MFIs to participate in the program.
Jean Claude Uzaribara an employee of Sacco Mageragere Icyerekezo who spoke on behalf of colleagues revealed that completing the training is a significant milestone.
“It is a great milestone which adds up to professional development as employees of financial institutions. The training prepared us to carry out our daily duties smoothly,” he said.
Some of trainees were promoted at their respective workplaces as the training was underway.
The Dual Apprenticeship system is expected to be rolled out across the country to increase the number of participating institutions. The next cohort will be comprised of 150 apprentices from 52 MFIs.
It is said that the Rwandans were arrested on 22nd August 2022 after illegally crossing into DRC as they collected firewood.
These include four women aged 24,26, 30 and 65 respectively as well as two male children aged below eight years.
On Thursday last week, the Mayor of Rubavu District along with other security officials summoned a meeting with residents during which they advised them against crossing the plain separating both countries for their security.

It is said that Congolese soldiers are demanding huge amounts of money to release the six Rwandan nationals.
It has been quite some time since the tension between Rwanda and DRC escalated after the resurgence of rebel group which is fighting Congolese Army.
DRC accuses Rwanda of supporting the rebel group but the latter repeatedly refuted the allegations and accused the neighbouring country of working with the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), a terrorist group comprised of remnant masterminds behind the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
Habineza allegedly fell at least 20 trees in a protected forest located in Terimbere Village, Nyaruvumu Cell of Rukira Sector to make timber for sale.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamdun Twizeyimana, the Police spokesperson for the Eastern region, said that the environmental crime was reported by area residents.
“Residents of Terimbere Village, on Saturday, when they were conducting Umuganda, noticed that 20 trees had been cut in the forest. They suspected Habineza to be behind the act, prompting them to report the matter to the Police,” SP Twizeyimana said.
Habineza was traced and arrested. He disclosed that he cut the trees and made 467 pieces of timber, which he sold to the duo of Ernest Nshimiyimana and Marcel Gitwaza for Rwf200,000.
The timber was recovered from the duo, who are still at large.
SP Twizeyimana thanked the residents for the community policing act to protect the environment and to ensure that those who destroy protected forests are arrested.
Habineza was handed over to RIB at Rukira station for further investigation while the search of accomplices is still ongoing.
Article 44 of Law N°48/2018 of 13/08/2018 on environment prohibits cutting trees in forests or protected areas or in national parks.
In article 59; any person, who causes death, destroys protected plants, harvests or damages them, commits an offence.
Upon conviction, he/she is liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than three years and not more than five years and a fine of not less than Rwf1 million and not more than Rwf3 million.
President Kagame arrived in Nyamasheke on Saturday following his previous visits to Ruhango and Nyamagabe districts which began on 25th August 2022. He is expected to conclude his four-day visit on Sunday in Karongi District.
Unlike other parts of the country visited by the Head of State, Nyamasheke residents welcomed Kagame with unique elegance as mothers in traditional attires turned up at Kagano playground with milk chunks, traditional calabashes and pointed traditional baskets symbolizing wealth and milk sufficiency, thanks to positive transformations attained under his visionary leadership.
It was an opportune moment to commend residents for their contribution to national development, remind them of their role to consolidate gains and hear their problems.
Some of concerns raised by residents include the issue of houses located in high risk zones. The Mayor of Nyamasheke District, Appolonie Mukamasabo said that having a model village would help the district to resettle residents decently.
As he addressed thousands of residents and leaders present at the event, President Kagame promised quick access to pending infrastructures where it is possible. He also revealed that possible delays in doing so would be linked to ongoing efforts to raise funds.
The Head of State stressed that resettling residents in model villages comes with several advantages noting that the government is set to scale up efforts aimed at solving such issues.
“Regarding the raised issue of residents in disaster prone areas which in some instances adversely affect residents and lead to deaths, the government already has plans to relocate citizens from risky zones to decent locations and help them stay there safely. It has happened in different parts [of the country]. There is no reason for Nyamasheke to miss out,” he said.
During his visit, the President also interacted with residents, who praised his visionary leadership. The Head of State also gave a clear guidance on how best their problems could be solved and urged leaders to hear citizens’ concerns habitually and solve them.

Yanga breathed the last on 17th August 2022 succumbing to natural cause. One day before his burial on Sunday, an event to commemorate his life is will be held at his home in Bugesera District.
Yanga went to South Africa in April this year. At the time, he was accompanying his children to visit their mother who works there.
Arriving in the country, he caught a disease that his life deteriorated until he breathed the last on 17th August 2022.
Yanga started his career as a film interpreter at the age of 17 while he was a secondary school student.
He once told IGIHE that he drew inspiration at early age from neighbours who forced their meal upon the job when his family lived in Uganda.
Interpreting movies into Kinyarwanda earned him huge returns and popularity.
He however retired from the business between 2012-2013 realizing that movie interpretation was no longer lucrative enough.
Yanga will be remembered as one of pioneers of film interpretation in Rwanda.
In 2018, Yanga was diagnosed with a stomach abscess which resulted into cancer. After learning about his critical condition, Yanga felt shocked and leaned on God.
He sought assistance from pastors to pray for him and later announced that he miraculously healed from stomach cancer without undergoing surgery.
Since then, he committed to serve God for the rest of his life. Yanga had established a movie hall dubbed ‘The One Film Production’.
The development has been confirmed by the International Federation of Football Veterans which revealed that the legends expected participate in the Veteran Clubs World Championship (VCWC 2024) will arrive in Rwanda in October this year. The tournament is due in Rwanda for the first time in May 2024.
The ‘Legends in Rwanda’ tour seeks to promote the 2024 Veteran Clubs World Championship to attract global participation, mobilize the Rwandan and African to be part of the event, promote Visit Rwanda campaign and recruit business, institutional, operational and media partners as well.
Gatete Jimmy, Khalifou Fidila (former captain of Senegal national football team), Patrick Mboma, Roger Milla and Anthony Baffoe are among other legends who will participate in promotional tour scheduled between 12th and 14th October 2022.
Speaking to the media on Thursday 25th August 2022, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Didier Shema Maboko revealed that selecting Rwanda as the host of the tournament is of great significance.
“First if all, it reflects Rwanda’s international credibility. Secondly, it helps us to promote our country’s visibility through Visit Rwanda campaign. The event will also serve as a platform for discussions on development in a broader perspective,” he said.
Fred Siewe, the President of the International Federation of Football Veterans has said that hosting the event in Rwanda is a great success.
“The dreams are coming true. We selected Rwanda because it is a beautiful country with guaranteed security and warm hospitality. In fact, it is the right place to host the tournament,” he affirmed.
The tournament will bring together 150 football veterans from 40 countries (eight teams) facing off in 20 games.
The tournament which seeks to share the passion of the game will coincide with forums aimed at contributing to sustainable development.
These include peace, education, technology, investment and tourism forums.
