Three suspected drug traffickers have been arrested separately in Huye and Kicukiro districts in a police intensified crackdown to break the narcotic drugs’ supply chain.
Two suspects, Eriyedi Nzigiyimana, 24, and Martin Ngendahayo 32, were arrested in Huye, Rusatira Sector on March 5, after they were found in possession of 2100 rolls of cannabis.
Supt Andre Hakizimana, Police spokesperson for the Southern region, explained that the two men were reported by area residents.
“After getting the information, we acted with the residents and local leaders and arrested the duo red-handed in Byiza Cell,” Supt. Hakizimana said.
“We are working well with the people and no doubt this partnership will continue to yield such good results against criminality,” he added.
Both Nzigiyimana and Ngendahayo are currently held at Rusatira Police station.
Acting on tip off by the public, in Kicukiro, one Seraphine Mukamuganga, 38, was also apprehended the same day in Gahanga Sector at about 6pm, with 200 litres of Muriture, a locally made illicit brew.
The seized illicit brew was later destroyed in presence of area residents, during which police officers and local leaders engaged the residents in community policing discussions and urged them to report anyone they suspect of being involved in drug-related crimes.
