Two men Detained Over Murder

Jean Claude Shema, 26 years, is being held by Rwamagana Police for allegedly murdering his cousin Emmanuel Mbarushimana also 26. His uncle, JMV Bizimana, who is on the run, is suspected to be part of the homicide.

Police says the three had been involved in a family property-sharing dispute. The family says they had allowed Emmanuel Mbarushimana to stay in a family house with his wife, until recently when it was agreed that he returns it after July 2.

However, Jean Claude Shema and his uncle could not wait. On June 28, they stormed into the house and forced Emmanuel Mbarushimana to evacuate.

The coercion triggered a heated fight. Jean Claude Shema and his uncle JMV Bizimana ended up smashing his head with a forked hoe.

Eastern Region Police Spokesperson Superintendent Emmanuel Karuranga said the suspects will face justice.

He however insisted that such family disputes should be taken to relevant authorities. He warned that people who take matters into their hands will be punished by law.

The suspects could be sentenced to life imprisonment if proven guilty by court.
