It all started when the suspect, who is currently detained at Mutenderi police post, came back home at about 4pm drunk.
He allegedly asked the victim, their neigbour and a family friend, what she was doing in their house.
Apparently, Habanabakize’s mother tried to intervene to explain to her son who the victim is and how she’s a family.
This proved nothing as Habanabakize was already under the influence of alcohol.
Before even the victim could say anything, Habanabakize had already hit him with a club on the head sending her on the ground unconsciously.
The innocent woman, who was rushed to Mutenderi health centre for medical attention, was saved by neighbours after the suspect’s mother raised an alarm.
After he regained his senses, Habanabakize didn’t even remember what he did, when asked by police.
He only begged to be pardon, adding that he had no grudge with the victim and that he was tempted by alcohol.
The Eastern Region police spokesperson, Superintendent Christophe Semuhungu, warned all those involved in the sell and consumption of illicit brew and narcotics.
“For some time now,Police has conducted awareness campaigns against drug abuse and its related dangers.
We are good to say these campaigns have proved a note, but there are those like Habanabakize, who have kept deaf ears and we will not give them chance to keep disturbing peace and security in their communities,” he stated.
Drug abuse is said to be the brain behind most other crimes like assault, domestic violence and theft.
