Three Held Over Counterfeit Cash

{{Three men in Gakenke district have been arrested by Police in connection with engaging in making counterfeit currency.

Police arrested the suspects in three separate operations.}}

Mustafa Ahongeze, was arrested while trying to con Vedaste Nizeyimana – a businessman – to sell him black dollars.

The suspect was trying to convince the businessman that the black dollar papers can be turned into real dollar notes.

Police is also still searching for a man identified Jill – Ahongeze’s accomplice – who is also alleged to have conned Nizeyimana of Rwf420, 000. The conning transactions, apparently, were made in Kigali.

Ahongeze, who is currently detained at Gakenke Police Station, denied any involvement in criminal act, alleging that he was tricked by Jill and that he had no knowledge of the whole illegal process.

Jeannette Muziboro and Innocent Kabera 38,a guard working for Intersec security company, were arrested in Rubavu District after they allegedly conned Pricillar Banganyinka of Rwf1.7 million, on promise to make her dollar notes.

They are currently held at Kanzenze Police station in Rubavu district.

The arrest of Muziboro and Kabera followed a tip-off from an individual who was well versed with the conning and counterfeit process involving the duo.

The Northern Region Police Spokesperson, Supt Francis Gahima, said everyone who could be involved in such illegal acts, that they “have no place to hide, unless they desist from such criminal activities.”
