{The Prime Minister, Anastase Murekezi has said that the government of Rwanda cannot tolerate malpractices in the process of implementing programs meant to promote poor citizens citing people misappropriating Girinka cows and others selling fertilizers meant for poor farmers.}
He called upon whoever is doing so to stop immediately.
Premier Murekezi revealed this yesterday as he concluded the National Itorero dubbed “Ingamburuzabuke” which has been taking place in Huye district for one week.
The National itorero brought together 1001 people including agronomists, veterinaries and representatives of agriculture and animal husbandry cooperatives from across the country.
Murekezi noted that dishonest acts have been cited among some of leaders jeopardizing Girinka program among other malpractices and requested graduating ‘Intore’ (a person having completed courses under National Itorero) to avoid that.
“Dishonesty hurts many Rwandans.It is dominating in areas which should be delivering good services like farmers and breeders adding to bribery in Girinka. Some people misallocate fertilizers in conspiracy with entrepreneurs that won the tenders .Such culture of robbing citizens must be punished and uprooted,” he said.
Graduating Intore pledged to correct mistakes that have been realized in the near past of which the majority are rooted in lacking cooperation, working for self benefits and establishing ghost cooperatives with the aim of filling their bellies with funds meant for poor people.
“We have been trained on patriotism where we learn that it starts from fulfilling one’s duties. We have committed to change and enhance farmers’ productivity,”said Athansie Mukankusi, one of the National Itorero graduates.
Premier Murekezi requested Intore to make sure promises are put into practice other than cheating.
“Signing performance contracts is not enough. You must implement what you vowed to do,” he said.
Murekezi said that the government will continue to build their capacity to boost agriculture and animal husbandry on which many Rwandans depend.
