Police, local leaders in Nyabihu in nutrition drive

{The District Police Unit of Nyabihu and local leaders have reinforced the campaign to ensure healthy feeding.}

On June 21, the District Community Liaison Officer of Nyabihu, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Aliane Muhorakeye and local leaders in Jenda Sector conducted a household campaign to sensitise them on good feeding to prevent any likely ill-effects associated with bad feeding.

According to AIP Muhorakeye, the campaign aims at preventing diseases that arise out of unbalanced diet for children, which can as well be a source of insecurity in one way or another.

“This is like a guidance campaign among families so that heads of households or parents give their children a diet which is well balanced; this is again in the spirit of partnership and community policing in general to ensure human security and a way of preventing associated diseases that can as well be a threat to security,” AIP Muhorakeye said.

The household campaign team also included the executive secretary of Jenda, Rurangwa Manzi and the coordinator of youth volunteers in community policing in Nyabihu, Assoumpta Manishimwe.

The exercise involves helping households to created backyard gardens locally known as Akarima k’igikoni, which is one of the government programmes to ensure healthy diet.

Elsewhere, AIP Muhorakeye later held a campaign in GS Kora Catholique; a 12-year basic education school located in Bigogwe Sector and enlightened about 780 students on the emerging threat of human trafficking and the youth-ravaged threat of drug abuse.

“Do not be duped; human trafficking is real and it can be your so called friend, relative but in most cases strangers who will try to brainwash you with empty promises elsewhere either within or out of the country,” AIP Muhorakeye said.

she further appealed to them to always be quick to report any person that tries to seduce them with such promises.
