{Residents of Gikomero Sector in Gasabo District have followed in the footsteps of other sectors in different parts of the country to refurbish their Police Station to the required standard as a gesture of good partnership in community policing.}
The face-lifted Police station was inaugurated on June 17 by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel, Juvenal Marizamunda.
Speaking to about 2000 residents, who turned for the official inauguration of their police station, DIGP Marizamunda these are “fruits of good leadership and partnership.”
“Such successes are possible because of the visionary leadership headed by His Excellency President Paul Kagame that sowed the spirit of being the answer to our own problems together,” DIGP Marizamunda said.
“Rwanda National Police take this opportunity to thank the residents of Gikomero for all the actionable and fruitful partnership. Such valuable spirit of community policing is the force behind the existing peace and security Rwanda enjoys today and make it among the safest countries world over,” he added.
The event was also attended by senior police and military officers, and local leaders in the district.
Raymond Chretien Mberabahizi, the vice mayor of Gasabo in charge of economic development, said this gesture was in recognition of the RNP professionalism and accountability in ensuring security.
“In the recent past, only three out of fifteen sectors of Gasabo, which constitute 58.2 percent of the City of Kigali, had a police station. We were experiencing many crimes, today, we are celebrating the safety and security residents of Gasabo are enjoying which we attribute to our Police,” Mberabahizi said. Currently, all the 15 sectors in Gasabo have a police station.
The fully-fledged police station of Gikomero was refurbished at a tune of Rwf9.8 million. It has an anti-GBV room, two separate detention facilities to accommodate both male and female suspects, an operation and control room.
