Leaders urged against oppression

{Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) says allowing citizens a free space to reveal how services are offered by local leaders is one of the pillars in promoting good governance and urges local leaders to keep efficiency as a topmost norm. }

Antoine Ruburika, Head of Good Governance department in RGB has noted this yesterday as he talked to Bugesera residents and partners on good governance principles.

“It is not allowed for a leader to oppress even one person. It is a crime that the offender may be punished for. When the public complains about poorly offered services you should act urgently to correct the way you work other than avenging,” noted Ruburika.

Ruburika says that since the inception of governance week in 2012 they would handle 6000 among 7000 problems annually. Today, he said, such cases have reduced to about 3000 cases per year.

“This is a free space for the citizenry to point out leaders that have solicited for bribes so that leaders can rectify where they underperform, “said Ruburika.

The mayor of Bugesera district, Emmanuel Nsanzumuhire said that good governance goes hand in hand with citizens’ welfare.

RGB carries research to assess success of service delivery among citizens where they identify good performance and weaknesses rectified.

RGB also organizes an annual Good Governance where governance clinics are used to address governance challenges.
