The president of IBUKA, Jean Pierre Dusingizemungu has stressed the need for adults to sign the pact of what they agreed to do to eradicate genocide ideology and activities destabilizing genocide survivors.
Dusingizemungu revealed this during the occasion where the youth signed the generation pact where they pledged to combat genocide ideology by reporting suspects to concerned parties regardless of the relationship with such suspects.
Dusingizemungu says that there should be a generation pact reserved for elders to contribute to the fight against genocide ideology.
“As genocide survivors, we commit to resisting acts that fuel trauma and its perpetrators. Next time, parents have to sign and pledge to mobilize others to emulate similar practices,” he said.
The Minister of Youth and ICT ,Nsengimana Jean Philbert said that they have launched the program of signing generation pact among the youth as a motive to elders to devote time and efforts in fighting the genocide ideology.
“The youth are going to provide a model of fighting genocide ideology. We want to see concerted efforts from different generations speaking the same language of fighting the ideology. Elders should teach the real history to the youth and become the foundation of Rwandan spirit,” he said.
The executive secretary of the National Commission for Unity and Reconciliation (NURC), Fidele Ndayisaba observed that it would be better if elders also sign the generation pact to promote Rwanda’s unity and reconciliation.
Signing the generation pact started going into force at the launch of Ndi Umunyarwanda.
Today, MyICT says that protecting the country from divisionism and realizing the country’s development, among others, symbolize youth commitment towards a shared vision.
MYICT says that ideas of the youth that have signed the generation pact will be collected and published for sharing with the public.
