Gicumbi market roof leaks, traders count losses

{Traders in the modern market of Gicumbi town have requested leaders to renovate the market of which roof leaks and expose their merchandise to damages and leaving them vulnerable to wetting. }

Traders who talked to IGIHE say the roof tiles are dilapidated and the cross bars fragile, a situation they say has stayed for the last eight years.

“Our merchandise should be kept under acceptable hygienic conditions.When it rains the market becomes muddy, our products get damages and we lose clients,” said Mukakamari Odette.

Another trader, Hitimana Fabien, says that some merchandise is destroyed when it rains during night when they’re at home.

“I sell radios which are sometimes destroyed when it rains.I once made a loss after water seeped through to the radio boxes. ,” he said.

The mayor of Gakenke district, Mudaheranwa Juvenal confirmed that the matter is known adding that they are seeking how to address it, without being specific on how and when.
