Rswitch donates Rwf 5m in one year Mituelle de Santé to 1500 genocide widows under Avega Agahozo

In the national spirit of commemoration of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsi, RSwitch Limited last week donated Rwf5m in Mituelle de Santé to 1500 widows, members of AVEGA Agahozo— an association created by genocide widows with a vision to restore hope, empower and help integrate genocide widows into the Rwandan society.

Addressing AVEGA Executives, members and staff in Rwamagana district, RSwitch Ag. CEO Mr. Jean Claude Gaga said that commemorating is one of the first steps to restore hope to survivors for a safer and reliable future.

He said, “As RSwitch, we decided to join our community in support of the wider national agenda to care for survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi by offering this humble medical cover at least for one year.”

He added, “While ours is a small contribution, we must commend the work AVEGA Agahozo has done in restoring hope to the members. It is amazing to see the hope in your eyes.”

The AVEGA Agahozo Executive Chairperson, Ms. Valerie Mukabayire thanked RSwitch for the heartfelt contribution saying it would go a long way in supporting the widows who currently suffer from a number of illnesses as a result of the genocide and old age.

“Most of the widows in our association are elderly and suffer many illnesses hence making it hard for them to work and pay for their own Mituelle de Santé. This will also help them to join other health programs to enable them live a better and healthier life,” she explained.

Representing the Mayor of Rwamagana district, Mr. Rubibi Nsenga also expressed his gratitude on behalf of the district saying it was great to see more residents and most importantly vulnerable survivors able to have Mutuelle de Santé.

“A great thank you to RSwitch for this support which will address one of the major challenges the district is facing,” he concluded.

During the visit, RSwitch staff also interacted with the widows who shared their life stories and struggles with the team. According to one of the staff, this was a great learning experience and they drew a lot of inspiration from the strength and spirit demonstrated by the widows.

Rwandans and people across the world commemorate each year the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsis for 100 days starting from April 7. This year’s theme is geared towards fighting genocide ideology.
