Gishwati-Mukura National Park to draw more tourists

{The government of Rwanda’s commitment to building a vibrant services sector to maximize earnings has seen an increment in the number of sites reserved for tourism activities, among other strategies adopted to achieve the goal. }

In 2015, tourism sector earned USD315,000,000 and Rwanda Development Board (RDB) targets to increase 25% of tourism revenues every year.

RDB says there will be an increase in arrivals in Western Province as the 4th National Park of Gishwati, Mukura opens.

“With the opening of Gishwati National Park, we expect the park to attract more tourists and longer duration of stay,” said Gakire Callixte, Tourism and Conservation officer in RDB.

The natural forests of Gishwati-Mukura is located in the Congo-Nile divide with over 60 tree species. It preserved for conservation in 1933.

Gishwati-Mukura forest also accommodates various fauna and flora including chimpanzees, golden monkeys, and birds among others extending to Rutsiro and Ngororero districts in Western Province, covering 3558 hectares–1570ha for Gishwati and 1988ha for Mukura.
