{Police has urged students of Groupe Scolaire Bwiza in Rutsiro District to actively take part in fighting and preventing crimes, with emphasis on drug abuse.}
In a meeting with over 600 students at their school in Mwinda Sector on March 7, Inspector of Police (IP) Jerome Nsabuwera, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) noted that abusing drug rated high among the youth “can be reduced significantly if there is partnership, cooperation and fighting suppliers and well as cutting demand.”
He reminded students and teachers to enhance the existing partnership, form anti-crime clubs to spearhead the awareness programmes with in the school to decisively campaign against the vice.
“It is through such partnership that we have been able to seize big quantities of cannabis and illicit brew, and many dealers apprehended based on the information provided; it is imperative to form such clubs” said IP Nsabuwera.
He went on to urge students to refrain from temptations of dropping out of school adding that there are reports of students who dropped out of school to go for employment in mining concessions.
During the meeting, students formed an anti-crime club and pledged to make it vibrant to denounce the criminal act of trafficking, selling and consuming narcotic drugs.
John Hakizimana, a senior three student, said they will also use the club to reach out to school dropout who are working in mineral concessions and encourage them to return to school.
The Director of the School, Jean Baptiste Nyandwi thanked Rwanda National Police for its outreach sensitization campaigns saying that such meetings help in shaping informed and responsible citizens. He pledged commitment to continue the sensitization against the crime within their schools.
