Rwanda, DRC border in Rusizi gets extra hours

{The Democratic Republic of Congo has extended working hours at Rwanda-DRC border in Rusizi district following recent requests by Kamembe and Bukavu residents to the authorities to extend working hours.}

According to the new changes, the border side of Congo will increase working hours to comply with Rwanda’s schedule.

Usually the border side of Rwanda is opened at 6:00 am to be closed 10:00 pm while Congolese border would open at 6:00 am and closed at 6:00 pm which frustrated cross-border transactions.

In an interview, the employee in charge of programs awareness in the office of immigration and emigration in Rwanda, Butera Yves held with IGIHE, he confirmed that Congo border started working until 10:00 pm but they were not informed on the changes.

“At Congolese border, they have extended working hours. They currently close at 10:00 pm but Rwanda was not informed about the reform,” he said.

He further said that increasing working hours has an increased value and benefits from citizens running business and others who would be pressured to leave in case their visited friends from neighboring country.
