Frank Muhumuza an inmate in Musanze prison of Northern Province has been shot by a prison guard as tried to escape after jumping over the prison security wall.
The incident took place early yesterday when prison guards shot the inmate as he run after jumping over the prison.
The spokesperson of Rwanda Correctional Service (RCS) Hillary Sengabo told IGIHE that the inmate was shot as he escaped from the confines of the prison.
The deceased was a resident of Bugesera district who spoke well Kinyarwanda language even though he claimed to be a Ugandan.
Muhumuza was sentenced for three years over theft and had already completed seven months.
The dead body was taken to Ruhengeri hospital for autopsy.
