{The chairperson of Transparency International Rwanda (TIR), Ingabire Marie Immaculée has observed that some people seem to be untouchable and adamant even when they are warned against corrupt behaviours. }
“Some people get involved in corrupt practices with impunity. The law is not blind to any one individual on corruption and therefore impunity must be done away with,” she said.
Ingabire called the corrupt big-wigs the harshest enemies of Rwanda who threaten and denigrate whoever tries to reveal their involvement in bribery cases.
She said that only a small portion of information obtained on bribery is disseminated since they have to carry out further investigations to ensure accuracy. Ingabire told Radio 10 that a lot efforts need to be expended in creating awareness among local leaders to reduce the rates of bribery.
The 2015 report of TIR indicated that police and local administration are most the corrupt. The January 2016 report released by Transparency International on how countries reduced corruption ranked Rwanda in the 4th position in Africa and the 44th globally.
Ingabire requests the government to take serious measures against anyone caught in bribery giving and taking.
