Burera: Community Policing Committees acquire more crime prevention skills

{About 120 members of Community Policing Committees (CPCs) from Cyanika Sector in Burera District were on January 18 given more skills in community policing.}

Faustin Kayitsinga, the sector executive secretary of Cyanika thanked the CPCs for their policing work, but observed that there is still a gap between them and the public.

He urged them to strengthen partnership with the residents and night patrols while being exemplary.

“As residents entrusted to lead others in community policing to ensure security in Cyanika, you should lead by example and refrain from unlawful acts like drug abuse,” Kayitsinga told the CPCs.

Inspector of Police (IP) Justin Kajeje, the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Burera, took them through the security status and urged them to enhance the detection, fighting and prevention of crime.

He reminded them to put much emphasis in fighting use and sell of narcotic drugs like cannabis and other trafficked and locally made illicit gin and brew, which he said fuel other crimes.

“In most cases, you will find that other crimes like domestic and gender based violence, theft, assault and child abuse. So, much emphasis has to be put in breaking what causes other crimes,” IP Kajeje said.

He also appealed to them to always partner with residents, sensitize them on crime prevention and timely information exchange noting that unlawfulness and criminality can only be combated as a team.
