UN lauds Rwanda on AIDS combat efforts

{One UN through the anti HIV/AIDS agency, UNAIDS, has lauded Rwanda for reducing child mortality among new births of HIV positive pregnant women as well as reducing new contraction.}

In a report released a few days to celebrate International Aids Day that falls on 1st December, UNAIDS has appreciated efforts and initiatives crafted by the Rwanda government against mother to child transmission among others.

The report indicates that Rwanda has played a big role in the prevention of child infection during birth and breastfeeding.

In 2014 Rwanda reduced HIV mother-to child transmission by 88%. The coordinator of UNAIDS, Rwanda, Michel Sidibé has said that Rwanda’s achievements should be emulated by other countries to save lives.

He has said that by the year 2030, 21 million deaths of HIV/AIDS will have been marked, 28 million people infected, including 5.9 million children if there are no preventive measures devised today.

“Everyone has the right of a healthy and sustainable life. We must deliver adequate services in the prevention of AIDS. This must be achieved through delivery of good services and respecting human rights without any discrimination,”said Sidibé.
