UNAMID Force Commander Commends Rwanda Peacekeepers for civilian protection

{The United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) Force Commander, Lt Gen Paul Ignace MELLA on 31st December 2014 visited Rwanda peacekeepers in Zalingei, Central Sector of Zalingei in Darfur.}

According to the Ministry of defence, the Commanding Officer of Rwanda battalion (Rwanbatt 42) Lt Col Venant BIZIMUNGU received and briefed him on the military operations, significant incidents, Contingent Own Equipments Status, CIMIC activities and operational challenges among others.

Addressing Rwanbatt42 Officers and Men, the UNAMID Force Commander commended the job well done so far by Rwanda Peacekeepers.

He reminded the operation conducted by Peacekeepers last year in Kabkabiya, where they successfully halted the unknown armed men who attacked an Internally Displaced Persons Camp.

“I am sure you also will do the same as your counterparts did when they managed to respond timely to the attack which occurred to the population in distress at Kabkabiya”, Gen MELLA said.

He promised the troops that he is ready to provide any assistance to enable Rwanda Peacekeepers to fulfill the UNAMID mandate.

The Force Commander was together with the Sector Commander, the Rwandan Contingent commander and other higher authorities from UNAMID Headquarters.
