Youths Trained on Crime Prevention

About 300 members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers Organisation from across the country started a nine-day training in crime prevention at the National Police College in Musanze district on August 25.

The organization which has about 7, 000 members countrywide supports vulnerable communities by giving them medical insurance, livestock and carryout crime prevention awareness programmes in schools and communities against drug abuse, corruption and gender and domestic violence, among others.

The Minister for Local Government Francis Kaboneka presided over the official launch of the training organised and conducted by Rwanda National Police.

Minister Kaboneka appealed to the youth to play a key role in crime prevention through strengthened awareness programmes.

“Strive to be citizens that are the solution to security and development challenges,” Kaboneka told the youth.

“Rwanda has defined its destiny and Rwandans are defined by their dignity. You the youth should endeavor to ensure that this continues to be a tradition including being at the forefront against anything that can destabilise peace and security the country enjoys,” Minister Kaboneka said.

Kaboneka also appealed to them to desist any attempts and rumours by people playing negative politics.

“You have stand and fight for the truth. You can never lose any battle as long as you are fighting for the truth,” he observed.

The Inspector General of Police Emmanuel K. Gasana applauded the youth volunteers organisations for their commitment and enthusiasm to fight and prevent crimes.

He urged them to take advantage of the training acquire skills and knowledge that will guide them further in their campaign to ensure a crime-free Rwanda.

Jean Bosco Mutangana, the president of youth organisation noted that security is a basis for development.

“We all know how our brothers and sisters sacrificed their lives to liberate this nation. We want to emulate them and partner with security organs to fight and prevent anything that can take us back to the dark days,” Mutangana noted.
