Youth Volunteers argued to raise awareness against human trafficking

{‎Members of Rwanda Youth Volunteers in Community Policing Organisation (RYVCPO) in Rulindo District have been called upon to put more efforts in the awareness campaign against human trafficking as means to prevent any likely criminality.}

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Ariane Muhorakeye, the District Community Liaison Officer of Rulindo made the call on April 6 while addressing about 80 members of the organisation from Jenda Sector.

While enlightening them on how human trafficking is carried out, AIP Muhorakeye said that it can be done by a relative, friends but in most cases, by strangers who seduce victims promising them better offers like jobs in other places with in or outside the country.

“Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery, and in most cases it involves deceit where victims are meant to believe that they will be given well paying jobs or education but the fact is that the traffickers want to use you in exploitative and hard labour activities for their personal gains,” AIP Muhorakeye told the youth.

“Although figures indicate that this crime is at a very low rate in our country, we cannot afford to turn a blind eye. Our goal as Rwanda national Police, which should equally be the responsibility of every Rwandan, is to fighting this act through partnership both internal and external, raise awareness and ensure that victims are rescued while traffickers arrested to face justice.”

The Executive Secretary of Jenda sector, Manzi Rurangwa urged participants to make use of the acquired knowledge to make impact in the society.
