Youth Muslims urged to promote security

{Police in the Eastern Province, on Friday engaged about 120 youth Muslims from the region in crime prevention awareness and urged them to be active partners in fighting and preventing crimes, and promoting safety and security.}

Inspector of Police (IP) Goretti Uwimana made the call while speaking to the youth attending Muslim programmes in Rwamagana.

IP Uwimana, who is also the District Community Liaison Officer (DCLO) of Rwamagana, appealed to the youth to desist and fight genocide ideology, use and sell of illicit drugs and beware of people that take their advantage and lure them into human trafficking.

“Rwamagana, like in other districts across the country, is still faced with some security challenges brought about by drug abuse like domestic and gender based violence, child abuse, and affecting the young generation,” IP Uwimana said.

Speaking on the issue of genocide ideology, she urged them to stand for the Rwandan values of unity and peace by fighting and reporting anyone that attempts to sow the seeds of hatred, denial, minimizing, and negating the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

She further urged them to desist from any attempt and report anyone that would want to radicalize them into terror activities.

One of the youth, Abdallah Habineza from Kirehe District, said: “The young are the powerhouse of our country, we shouldn’t indulge into illegal and criminal acts like drug abuse, which affect our performance and lose target.”

He thanked police for giving them tips that will guide them in their education journey while fighting anything that can affect the safety and security Rwandans enjoy today.
