Police in Bugesera district is holding a woman identified as Clementine Nyiracumi in connection with the death of her mother -in- law. The victim is identified as Goreth Nyirahabimana, 65.

The bloody incident took place on March 15, in Gicaca cell, Musenyi sector.

Nyiramacumi is alleged to have chopped off her mother-in-law’s head using a machete, accusing her of witchcraft.

Her arrest came after a resident, who witnessed the inhuman incident notified Police.

She is currently detained at Nyamata Police Station while the victim’s body was taken to ADEPR Nyamata Hospital for postmortem.

Superintendent Benoit Nsengiyumva, the Eastern region Police Spokesperson condemned the inhuman act.

He called upon the community to report such family disputes to Police or local leaders to prevent such bloody acts. If convicted Clementine Nyiramacumi shall serve a life imprisonment as according to article 140 of the Rwandan penal code.
