Police in Kirehe District has arrested a 22 year old woman,Marcelline Manizabayo who was on September, 23 allegedly assaulted her husband with a machete.
Manizabayo is currently detained at Kirehe Police Station.
The suspect reportedly attacked her husband Jean de Dieu Niyonshuti with a machete and cut him on the forehead, leaving him unconscious.
Niyonshuti was rushed to Kirehe hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to Police in Kirehe, the couple had been involved in an argument over money apparently which the victim took from his wife.
Police Spokesperson, Eastern Region, Supt. Benoit Nsengiyumva said most family conflicts and domestic crimes in the region are caused by land disputes, illegal marriages, polygamy, drunkenness and husbands who mistreat their spouses which prompts the latter to seek other means to defend themselves.
He however, said that measures have been taken to contain the situation, including sensitization, adding that the issue is on the decrease following the new measures initiated.
