While addressing a press conference on Rwanda and regional issues starting on Tuesday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Louise Mushikiwabo said that Rwanda will never allow FDLR to destabilize the country.
Last month FDLR rebels attacked Rwanda and killed several and wounded others.
“We are closely monitoring FDLR’s activities and we can assure you about the safety of our borders.” – Mushikiwabo noted.
She revealed that Rwanda and DRC have worked together to find a solution to the FDLR adding that Rwanda will make sure not to respond to skirmishes that could lead to a situation that could harm the current peace efforts in the region.
“The int’l community tends to forget the real nature of the FDLR: genocidaires and bandits disturbing DRC as they did in Rwanda” Mushikiwabo said.
While commenting to aid suspension owing to the false accusation that Rwanda supports M23 rebels, Mushikiwabo noted that Rwanda cannot continuously engage with fact-less accusations adding that they are other serious issues to deal with.
“Aid is neither charity nor everlasting. Rwanda and Africa are getting ready for the post-aid era and that era is coming.”
“We don’t need distraction” Mushikiwabo said.
“We need to move away from the ethnic thinking while analyzing the M23 and the conflict in East DRC”.
Minister Mushikiwabo pointed out that “Political talks are the next step after M23 withdraw from Goma.
