WASAC has scooped the 2015 Global water Awards over good preservation of water.
The institution has been awarded over great deal of reforms realized in 2015 where its facilities for water production increased by two-fold while the debt recovery was attained at 100%.
Global water Awards is given by England based news medium ‘The Global Water Intelligence’ disseminating water related news.
Providers of the award say that the performance of WASAC increased by 174% in one year and rose from making losses of Rwf 136 million to a profit of Rwf 374 million.
The WASAC Chief Executive Officer, James Sano and the Ministry of Infrastructure were commended for their unwavering efforts in overhauling the water production and distribution systems.
The committee in charge of the awards says that the leadership of James Sano and the Ministry of Infrastructure demonstrated unusually excellent performance within a short period of time.
“There have been administrative reforms, management reforms, customer care reforms, proper use of energy and recovering debts of invoiced bills. Today WASAC is considered an exemplary utility in Sub Saharan Africa,” noted the committee.
After receiving the award which was delivered during the meeting on water vision 2050 held in Abu Dhabi from Arab States, James Sano attributed the award to good governance right from the top leadership.
He tweeted; “I attribute this Global Water Award to good governance of Rwanda led by President Paul Kagame.”
WASAC competed with other leading institutions including Rand Water from South Africa and NAWASA from Grenada and Indonesia.
Other institutions were awarded in various domains of demonstrating excellence in addressing water shortage and embracing new technologes in water systems among others.
Global Water Awards was initiated in 2006 to excellent institutions in water production and distribution, purification and application of technologies.
