Vulnerable Residents in Bugesera Given Free Cultivation Land

Bugesera district administration is issuing cultivation land to the residents near Rurambi swamp who had no land for agricultural activities.

“Residents without land are chosen by the local administration with the help of area residents,” said Jean de Dieu Nkinzingabo, in charge of agriculture in Bugesera district.

Nkinzingabo an agronomist in the area says residents given land are the first beneficiaries because the swamp was cleared halfway, and when it fully is cleared the remaining part will be distributed among other poor residents.

Cultivation beneficiaries are residents that live in sectors near Rurambi swamp such as Juru and Mwogo sectors in Bugesera and Masaka sector in Kicukiro district.

Though 1000 hectares are planned to be cleared by an agriculture project in Bugesera, only 350 hectares of the swamp have been cleared and given to the residents.
