Sheba Basabose was under the influence when her car went up on the sidewalk on McHenry Avenue in Westwood.
Her car hit Joselyn Austin and her three children. Three-year-old Rodriguez Taylor died. Austin was taking her children to daycare at the time.
Basebose’s attorney asked for the minimum sentence of nine months so that Basabose, a native of Rwanda, could continue to help her family.
However, Rodriguez’s mother pleaded for more jail time. Basebose has been in jail while her case goes through the court system. She’s already served more than two years. The judge also suspended Basabose’s driver license for ten years.
