A delegation of United States Department of Defense Officials led by Mr. Brian Mckeon, Principal under Secretary of Defence for Policy visited yesterday, Rwanda Peacekeepers (Rwanbatt6), serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), at Juba UN Tomping Camp. The US delegation was accompanied by the US Ambassador to South Sudan, Mrs Moli Phee and Vice Admiral Michael Franken, Deputy US AFRICOM Commander for Military Operations.
The purpose of the visit was to meet UNMISS Forces , assess the challenges on ground and chart a way out on how US could support the Mission using high technology. At the Rwandan Contingent Headquarters in Juba, the US Delegation was welcomed by the Contingent Commander, Lt Col John Muvunyi , who briefed them on Rwanbatt6 activities and challenges encountered in its area of responsibilities.
In his remarks, Mr. Brian Mckeon appreciated Rwanbatt6 state of readiness and acknowledged the challenges highlighted by the Contingent Commander. He thanked the contribution of Rwanda in the Mission, commended good performance and excellent service of Rwanda peacekeepers.
The visit ended with a guided tour around Rwanbatt6 Camp facilities, including combat readiness equipment, Level I Hospital and Water treatment plant.
