Unstoppable Police edge ES Kigoma in handball championship

{It was the same old winning style for Police Handball Club as they edged ES Kigoma 37-27 as the second round of the national championship resumed on Saturday.}

The law enforcers had beaten Kigoma 30-15 in their last match of the first round and the story deferred only on the scores.

The defending champions scored 16 goals in the first half against 12 for the visitors, with the former netting 21 times in either half.

Captain Gilbert Mutuyimana and Zachary Tuyishime scored eight goals each to guide Police to their 10th win of the championship with 30 maximum points.

“Every match counts and winning is all that we focus at,” said Police coach, Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Antoine Ntabanganyimana.

Thanking the players for staying focused, AIP Ntabanganyimana went on to say that “we have eight other crucial games remaining and our philosophy is that even one loss will cost us the trophy, which we can’t afford to lose.”

Police has dominated the local scene winning four national league cups in the last five seasons. They also won all the trophies in the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

They are also the reigning champions of the East and Central Africa Handball Championship, and Ntabanganyimana says they are now building the club for regional and international competitions.
