UN failed to stop Genocide in Rwanda, we must embrace self defense – Netanyahu

{The Israel premier has expressed his disappointment for the UN failure to stop the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi and highlighted that that should be an eye opener in promoting self defense.}

Netanyahu said this in a press conference in Kigali.He said that Rwanda and Israel share similar history as the two countries experienced genocide and noted that countries should build their capacity to avoid reoccurrence of past tragedies.

“The United Nations failed to protect Rwandans.No one will defend you if you can’t defend yourself. We need to acquire self defense capacity,” Netanyahu Said.

President Kagame said that some people around the world still deny Genocide against Tutsi that took the lives of more than one million people.

“We will continue to teach people denying Genocide even though they are not unaware of what happened. They already know that genocide happened. We must ensure that Genocide never happens again,” Said Kagame

President Kagame told Netanyahu that citizens are the most important resources of Rwanda.

The most important resource that we have is our people; new areas of Rwanda and Israel Cooperation will follow this kind of thinking.” Said Kagame.

President Kagame and Netanyahu also witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements in the areas of Visa Exemption for holders of diplomatic passports and joint declaration of intent on innovation.

Rwanda and Israel jointly work on projects in Agriculture, water management, security and Capacity Building.

Netanyahu’s maiden visit to Rwanda has been historical since no other Israel premier ever visited Rwanda.

In June 2014, the two countries signed a partnership agreement that established a forum for consultations between the two states and boost Rwanda’s foreign direct investments from Israeli businesses. In March 2015, Rwanda sent Colonel Joseph Rutabana to represent her in Israel.
