ULK Students Sensitised on Post 2015 Development Agenda

{{Students of Kigali Independent University (ULK) on July 24th, were sensitised on the inclusion of Peace, security and Conflict Prevention in the post 2015 development agenda.}}

Addressing hundreds of students, The Chairperson of United Nations Association-Rwanda Jackline Kamanzi noted that most countries that have suffered the lack of peace and security were among those that failed to attain the millennium development goals.

Students were availed with literature and brochures detailing the freedom from violence project which would enable them strengthen advocacy for the post 2015 development agenda.

Kamanzi explained to students that “The post -2015 Dev Agenda refers to a process led by the UN that aims to help define the future global development framework that will succeed the MDGs when they come to an end”.

The interactive presentations enabled students to raise several questions and made various comments hinging on; large youth unemployment and conflicts.

Students that received the training have been tasked to take part in an essay competition involving other universities in the country that will receive similar training on the post 2015 development agenda. Only five winners from all the universities will be awarded.

Students expressed their gratitude for being considered to take part in the training saying they have acquired awareness on the freedom from violence project and would advocate for incorporation of peace, security and conflict prevention in the post 2015 development agenda.
