Uganda to Meet Ban Ki Moon Over ‘Lies’ in UN Report

Uganda government says it is dispatching three delegations to NewYork to explain to UN, Uganda’s position on a UN leaked report.

The report accused Uganda and Rwanda of supporting M23 rebels in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uganda’s Defence minister, Dr Crispus Kiyonga said that three delegations will be dispatched to the United Nations, United Kingdom and the Great Lakes region to explain Uganda’s position on M23 rebels fighting Kinshasa government since April.

Its reported that the Ugandan team is scheduled to meet the UN secretary, Mr Ban Ki-Moon.

“We want the UN Secretary General to know that his team lied. We are also explaining to all members of the International Conference for Great Lakes Region about the falsehoods in this report,” he said.

Dr Kiyonga said defence ministers from the ICGLR met last Friday in Goma, DR Congo and adopted a report compiled by the regional defence experts on the proposed international neutral force poised to deploy in DRC.

A copy of the report that gives details on the composition, equipment and funding of the force was submitted to President Museveni on Monday and gives December as the tentative month of deploying the force, Dr Kiyonga said.

At least 4,000 troops from Kenya, Tanzania, Angola and DR Congo are supposed to be deployed in Beni, Rutshuru, Goma and Walikale to fight rebel groups operating in Congo.

“The operations of this force will be against all negative forces including ADF (Allied democratic Forces), FDLR/Interahamwe and others.

These rebel groups have a chance to use political approaches to end the conflict. If not, there will be no option but to force them out,” Dr Kiyonga said.
