UDEPR church leaders burn witchcraft, prohibit mini skirts

{A new church introduced in Rwanda two months ago, Union des Eglises Pentecotes au Rwanda (UDEPR), has started gospel preaching, winning souls to Christianity, burning witchery and baptizing former practitioners of sorcery.}

In a recent baptism event held in Ngororero district last Friday, UDEPR tracked and burnt shrines that belonged to converts that later joined the church having turned away from sorcery.

Pastor Kavamahanga Alphonse, the leader of UDPR told IGIHE that it is the beginning of his church’s restoration of hope among the formerly lost individuals as more miracles shall be performed and spiritual renewal experienced by the believers.

“We have spiritually strong pastors. We have recently preached gospel in Ngororero district .The preacher stood up and brought one person holding witchcraft from among the crowd. We realized that he had on his back; bottles containing poison he used to harm people. He accepted his wrong acts and accepted salvation through baptism.

Even yesterday before we baptized people, Christians were mobilized for transformation and brought spell-craft which we burnt as people repented,” he said.
Kavamahanga says that his church has been operating for two months and has now registered more than 500 believers.

UDEPER church says it will concentrate its preaching on respecting Bible principles including restricting women from wearing miniskirts, requesting women to cover their heads when they go to church, not changing ordinary hairstyle and allowing space for people with spiritual power of prophecy.

When asked whether he will not lose followers over hard conditionalities, Kavamahanga replied that he better goes with few Christians he can take to heaven other than shepherding a large lost crowd of Christians.
