U23 AFCON 2019 qualifiers: DRC holds Rwanda to a goalless draw

The game was staged at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu District bordering the North Kivu Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) yesterday.

Through the 90 minutes of a game that was referred by an Ivory Coast official ended with neither side scoring.

The Junior Leopards of DRC dominated the 90 minutes and got several chances which they could not convert due to good performances of the Junior wasps’ defenders and impressive goalkeeping by Fiacre Ntwari, Rwanda’s U23 goalie.

No player of DRC was showed a yellow card while Rwandan players were thrice booked.

The return leg match will see Rwanda’s Amavubi u23 fly to Kinshasa to play against DRC at Stade des Martyrs on November 20 this year. The eventual winner of the two games will advance to the next round to face Morocco.

In other qualifying games of the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, Mauritius was beaten by Kenya 0-5 while Burundi hosted Tanzania and defeated them 2-0 in Bujumbura as Ethiopia humiliated Somalia in a game that ended with a 4-0 win over neighbors in the African Corner.

Uganda defeated South Sudan 2-1 while Seychelles and Sudan shared spots in a tie that saw the 90 minutes’ end in a 1-1 draw.
