Two Teachers Arrested For Attempting to Bribe Police Officer

{{A teacher at Mont Fort Nyamata secondary school in Bugesera district identified as Osbert Nuwahereza has been arrested for allegedly trying to bribe a Police officer to drop a case in which he is accused of camouflaging as a teacher at Groupe Scolaire Buhabwa in Kayonza district and defrauding public funds.}}

Nuwahereza was arrested on August 28 together with another teacher at Maranyundo Girls School after they tried to offer a bribe of Rwf90, 000 to the officer handling the former’s case, Police said.

Senior Supt (SSP), Bénoit Nsengiyumva, Police spokesperson for the Eastern region said the duo called the officer to find them at Red Lion Bar in Nyamata where they allegedly tried to seduce him with Rwf90, 000 to drop the case which is under investigation.

“Nuwahereza, a fulltime teacher at Mont Fort Nyamata secondary school in Bugesera district is being investigated for also registering as a teacher at Groupe Scolaire Buhabwa and has since been earning a double salary,” SSP Nsengiyumva said.

He explained that Nuwahereza was being paid as a teacher at Groupe Scolaire Buhabwa for about four months now and has never been a teacher at this school.

“When Nuwahereza learnt that he was being investigated, he contacted his accomplice to negotiate the bribery deal on his behalf to cancel investigations.

The officer informed his colleagues who arrested the two suspects red-handed,” he explained.

SSP Nsengiyumva also revealed that investigations are still ongoing to find out if there is any staff in the school administration that was involved in putting a ghost name on the government pay-roll.

“Investigations are still underway to ensure that all those connected to this fraud case face justice,” he said.
