Tigo-Reach for Change Semi-finalists Selected

The joint partners are proud to announce the semi-finalists for the 2012 competition. They are:

The semi-finalists were selected from an applicant pool of 588 entries. The applicants were reviewed by an esteemed panel of experts from business, government, entrepreneurship training and child rights sectors.

After further research on each of the twelve ideas, ten applicants will be interviewed.

Five to six applicants will be presented to a jury panel of CEOs and experts and two will ultimately be selected as Tigo Reach for Change Leaders for 2012.

The finalists will join a three year incubator program during which they will work on transforming their ideas into sustainable ventures.

They will receive salary funding of $25,000 annually during the three-year program as well as mentoring and professional advice from senior employees of Tigo.

Reach for Change identifies and supports social entrepreneurs with innovative ideas to improve the lives of children.

It is a non-profit organization founded by the Kinnevik Group in 2010 with operations in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Reach for Change is collaborating with Tigo, the senior corporate partner in Africa.

Millicom International Cellular S.A. is a global telecommunications group with mobile telephony operations in 13 countries in Latin America and Africa.

It also operates various combinations of fixed telephony, cable and broadband businesses in five countries in Central America.

The Group’s mobile operations have a combined population under license of approximately 270 million people.

This year the program has been launched in Chad, DRC, Ghana, Rwanda, Senegal and Tanzania. The program was piloted in Ghana in 2011 and successfully impacted the lives of over 140,000 children in that year alone.
