{Kigali, August 8th 2014. Tigo Rwanda, in partnership with non-profit organization Reach for Change, has launched a competition dubbed ‘Tigo Digital Change-makers’, which aims at identifying and supporting social entrepreneurs who use digital tools and technology to improve society and the lives of Rwandan children in a big way.

For the third time, Tigo and Reach for Change announce a competition in search for social entrepreneurs who work to improve the lives of children and society. Since 2012, they have supported 4 social entrepreneurs who have impacted the lives of over 10,000 children. This year’s competition has taken a clear focus on digital technology.

Tongai Maramba, Tigo General Manager said the following about the focus on digital social entrepreneurs, for this year’s competition:

“Supporting digital social entrepreneurs aligns well with our strategy to create a digital transformation in Rwanda.. As one of the most dynamic digital lifestyle brands, we felt that this should flow down to everything we do, including our Corporate Responsibility initiative.”

The Digital Change-makers initiative calls on the people of Rwanda to present innovative, diverse and creative ideas to improve the lives of children and youth.

The Reach for Change Regional Director for Africa, Amma Lartey reinforced this by adding on how digital technology plays a part in creating social change:

“Digital technology can be a great driver of social change, with the power to increase impact in almost every social sector; education, health, nutrition etc. We are excited about the opportunity to combine the passion and expertise of social entrepreneurs with technology and advice from Tigo and coaching from Reach for Change. We hope to see more social impact and growth in the entrepreneurs in our incubator.”

Interested candidates are invited to apply with ideas that can have positive impact on children and society in the many dimensions. These proposals will be reviewed by a panel of experts and selected on the basis of how relevant they are for the country. At the end, the candidates with the strongest and most impactful ideas will be funded with a yearly grant of 13.8 million Rwanda Francs.

In addition, Tigo will provide business expertise and mentorship from senior management staff. In exchange, candidates are required to not only meet their KPI’s but also commit full-time until their project is fully developed and self-sustainable.
