Teen Cannabis Dealer Arrested

{{Police in Rubavu District has detained a teenager aged 16 years who was found in possession with 425 pellets of cannabis from neighbouring DR Congo.}}

Christian Kageni said that he bought the pellets 2000 francs and was expected to sell them to one Mbarushimana who resides in Mbugangari village at 8000 francs.

Kageni is a resident of Kabashumba village, Ryinyo cell, Kintobo sector, in Nyabihu district.

Kageni also lamented that one pellet of cannabis is sold at 20 francs in DRC and he got involved into the business after failing to make a living in different construction activities he used to engage in.

In a related development, five women are also being held at Gisenyi Police station, suspected to be narcotic dealers.

The Western Region Police Spokesman Supt. Hamza Vita said that drug dealing in most rampant in Rubavu district. The illegal drug dealing facilitated by the porous border.

Vita said that due to community policing, the vice is being curbed down with the help of intensive campaigns between CPC’s and security organs in the area.

Supt. Vita urged area residents to concentrate in other economic activity such as retail trade, agriculture and other potential activities rather than indulging themselves in illegal crimes which are punishable.
