Jean Baptiste Semakamba, Eugene Musafiri and Florien Munyaneza were paraded before the media, yesterday, after they were arrested separately in a Police operation following last week’s murder of Ismael Bisengimana, a community night patrol in Kacyiru, Gasabo District, and shot and seriously injured Nuha Harindintwari, as they attempted to steal a motorcycle from him.

One of the suspects, Musafiri allegedly hired Harindintwari at around 7pm to transport him but he instead lured him in an ambush in Kamatamu cell, also in Kacyiru, where Munyaneza and Semakamba were waiting.

Semakamba, the mastermind of the criminal act, told journalists that “I bought the pistol we used in the murder, from another person in Bugesera at a value of Rwf200, 000.”

Police Spokesperson ACP Celestin Twahirwa, said Semakamba allegedly gave the firearm to Musafiri, whom he ordered to shoot the motorist at the time of the incident.

He went on to say that “criminals will never enjoy their freedom of action in this country because security for Rwandans is our main duty. ”

“With support from stakeholders and other security institutions, those who want to commit or attempt to commit crimes here will face the arm of the law and the price will be high for them.”

“I want to thank those motorcyclists and community patrols who courageously exerted pressure on thieves and forced them to abandon the motorcycle leaving traces on ground for police to track them. I also want to request the public to continue to partner with police in fight against crime.”

The motorcyclist, who is still admitted in the hospital, was shot in the chest. The bullet sound made members of local community patrol to intervene.
